A Basic Rules Question

Hello everybody,

I have just a simple RoG question:

Is it mandatory that the hole mentioned in RoG 1-1 (play the ball from the
tee into the hole) is on the green?

If so, which rule will impose this?

I didn't find any rule directly pointing at such requirement, just a hint
in the definitions ;->

Ciao,

Paul, planning a trip to Scotland in August ;->

It seems more than a hint. If there's a putting green, the hole has
to be there. However, I don't think putting greens are mandatory!

Hmm... It says that a lining must be below the "putting surface"...
What occurs if there is no lining? <wg>

I think that is in realtion to how a lining is positioned, if one is
used.

Maybe if there's no putting green, linings are not allowed!
