Places online to talk golf

I don't know how many of the old uk.s.g gang still pop in here from time to
time, but if, like me, you miss the chance to talk golf online, then you may
be interested in the following...

Some of you may be aware that the BBC has (had?) an online forum called 606.
It covered all sports but there was quite a strong golf section.

Like any online forum there was the occasional troll or wind-up merchant who
just came to disrupt, but it was basically a fairly civilized place to
discuss all aspects of golf.

Now, the BBC have announced that due to their cutbacks, they are closing the
606 forums at the end of the current football season, and many copy-cat
sites have sprung up.

Most of the members of the 606 golf forum have chosen www.606v2.com ... as
with the BBC site it covers a multitude of sports (the site was actually set
up by WRESTLING fans believe it or not!) but it seems to be the preferred
choice of the 606 golf community and it's now been running a couple of
months and is going from strength to strength.

If any of you fancy checking it out, the golf section can be found at
http://www.606v2.com/f31-golf though the whole forum for all sports (and off
topic stuff too) can be found at http://www.606v2.com

Would be good to see you there

PS - 606V2 is fairly committed to making the site work-safe for those who
are allowed to surf from the office. Images are banned and there is only a
small subset of "smilies" which aren't too intrusive or likely to draw undue
attention to office-surfers.

Thanks but no thanks Dave - I liked the style of this group so I'll pop
in and out occasionally to see if any of the old timers are still around.

Thanks for that Dave. I have registered. Sad that our get-together is a
thing of the past. I don't know whether this new site would offer the
opportunity to revive such a Bash.

IMO, that depends on the people, not on the site.

From my experience, for a casual monthly meeting of friends, perhaps the
change of the location or a change in one promoter's habits may be healthy
or a threat.

Ciao,

Paul
