Strange action whilst putting

A player I know, whilst preparing to putt, always drops his putter head
cover at a right angle to his line of putt immediately behind where he
will stand. The cover is still thare when he putts. Once when he did not
have his putter cover he dropped his glove in the same way.
Whilst I, personally, cannot see there is a way that he can gain
advantage from this I wonder if he is breech of any rule.

Did you ever ask him why he does so?

Is it placed (a) on the line of putt or (b) behind his feet?

a) He touches his line of putt without a good reason (RoG 16-1)
|Penalty for Breach of Rule 16-1:
|Match play - Loss of hole; Stroke play - Two strokes.

or possibly
b) he unduely uses equipment that might assist him in making a stroke
(RoG 14-3)
|Penalty for Breach of Rule 14-3: Disqualification.

Ciao,

Paul

The cover is placed behind his feet.
You mean in the line of his stance?
O I C.

It might be assistance anyway, otherways I don't see a break of a rule.

Do you have a chance to ask him why?

Ciao,

Paul
