playing in a four ball today one of our players went into a bunker, in the
bunker was a rabbit hole so the ball rolled into the hole was the ball still
in the bunker as it has now passed the under the lip, and if so were would
you drop the ball?

Many thanks in advance

If the ball has rolled past the lip of the bunker, then it's not in the
bunker any more. So free relief from the rabbit hole is taken by
dropping outside the bunker, at the Nearest Point of Relief from a point
above the rabbit hole.

If the ball hadn't rolled under the lip then because it was still in the
bunker, you would use the NPR that was also still in the bunker.

That's RoG 25-1 b...

I read with interest that ii) (b) seems to be possible without
restriction, i.e. relief outside, in line to the flag, with 1 penalty
stroke. I always thought of some restrictions for that: Wrong!

Note to myself:
Adding RoG 28, in acceptance of a penalty stroke, the range of choices
equals a frontal water hazard: a) go back on the line, b) repeat the shot.

Ciao,

Paul, no golf due to snow here.
