[eXtreme RuLing] An unplayable ball on the green...

Hi everybody,

while answering to a rules question some time ago, I tried to imagine a
situation where invocation of an "unplayable" might be useful on the green.
Here is my story:

Imagine a difficult lie on a heavily sloped surface - 4-5 feet to play
sidewards-downwards of the slope. Any mishit might propel the ball down to
the fringe of the green, maybe 10-15 yards from the hole.

Wouldn't it be nice to arrive at a place directly under the hole in one
stroke or penalty stroke? (within 2 clublengths, not nearer to the hole
should work)

One of the questions arising is how to put the ball to the new position.
Usually, one places a ball on the green but RoG 28 names "drop the ball"
as the only legal way to proceed.

So, would I have to drop a ball on the green from shoulder height?

20-2 c (iii) further gives the impression that any ball dropped onto the
green might be a repeatable drop...

Any thoughts on that?

Ciao,

Paul

Yes, under 28b or c. If instead, you had played your stroke and the
ball ran off the green you could replace it under 28a, when placing
would be the correct procedure.

This applies if the ball rolls *onto* a putting green. In your
example, the ball is already on the green.

Yes, under 28b or c.
This takes the point from my story, because I'd have to eccept a roll of
two club lengths.

Some ideas just don't work :-(
